UNESCO hosts event marking 25th anniversary of inscription of Icherisheher on World Heritage List

An event marking the 25th anniversary of the inscription of Icherisheher on the World Heritage List was held in Paris as part of the 47th session of the World Heritage Committee.

The event took place at the UNESCO headquarters at the initiative of the “Icherisheher” State Historical-Architectural Reserve Administration, and with the support of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to UNESCO, and the "Trend" International News Agency.

The event titled " Safeguarding the World Heritage: Heritage Conservation and Communication Practices” discussed international practices, modern approaches and communication strategies in cultural heritage conservation, restoration, and its presentation to the public.

Simona-Mirela Miculescu, President of the 42nd session of the General Conference of UNESCO, Lazare Eloundou Assomo, Director of the World Heritage Centre at UNESCO, and other international experts shared their perspectives on the role of media in presenting cultural heritage, the importance of public communication tools, and international approaches to conservation.

Speaking on behalf of Azerbaijan, Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve; Seymur Fataliyev, Secretary-General of the National Commission for UNESCO; Elman Abdullayev, Permanent Representative to UNESCO; Elsever Mammadov, Head of the Department of International Relations and Protocol of the Administration; and Elchin Agajanov, Deputy Director General of the "Trend" News Agency, shared insights into the restoration and conservation works carried out in Icherisheher, communication initiatives, and the measures taken to integrate its cultural heritage into public life.

The event served as an important platform for promoting Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage internationally, strengthening experience exchange in this field, and reinforcing the country’s position in heritage policy.
