Novruz Bayram was celebrated at UNESCO headquarters
2024-03-20"Novruz" Bayram, included as a multinational nomination on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (representing Azerbaijan, India, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan), was celebrated with enthusiasm at the organization's headquarters.
AZERTAC reports that the celebration of the Novruz holiday was joyously organized in a festive manner through the joint efforts of the permanent missions of Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Iran, Iraq, India, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, and Tajikistan at UNESCO.
As the head of the organizing committee of the holiday event, Askar Abdrakhmanov, the Permanent Representative of Kazakhstan to UNESCO, spoke about the Novruz holiday and its spiritual significance.
Then UNESCO's Assistant Director-General Xing Qu congratulated the participants of the event on behalf of the organization's Director-General, Audrey Azoulay. He emphasized that the Novruz holiday reflects universal values such as peace and solidarity, and serves as an example of national heritage passed down through generations. He classified Novruz as one of the important holidays for humanity and highlighted that the joint organization of this event by ten countries at UNESCO is a strong example of collaboration.
As part of the event, cultural representatives from the organizing countries performed national music and dance examples. Azerbaijani musicians living in Paris, Saddam Novruzov (clarinet) and Neshet Kutas (drums), performed Azerbaijani folk songs "Sarı gelin", "Novruz gelir, yaz gelir", "Maralı", and dances like "Qazaxı".
Elman Abdullayev, the head of Azerbaijan's Permanent Mission to UNESCO, informed the guests about the traditions of celebrating the Novruz holiday in our country.
A video about Novruz traditions of each country was broadcasted on big screens in the hall. Later, our national dishes were served at the banquet.
It should be noted that the Novruz holiday was inscribed on UNESCO's Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.
