A meeting of the Science Commission of UNESCO was held within the 41st session of the General Conference.

Azertag reports that at the meeting of the Science Commission our country was represented by Firuddin Aliyev, Chief of the Biodiversity Protection Service of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, and Rashad Allahverdiyev, Deputy Chief of the respective Service.

During the discussions on biosphere reserves, the member of our delegation Firuddin Aliyev spoke about the works done in recent years for expanding the network of specially protected natural areas in our country, as well as the creation of biosphere reserves. assessing biosphere reserves as an effective activity for protected areas. Besides, F.Aliyev assessed biosphere reserves as an effective means for specially protected natural areas during the discussions.

The service official also informed the participants about the start of work on the creation of the first biosphere reserves in the Caucasus and Azerbaijan.

The proposal to celebrate the International Day of Biosphere Reserves, initiated at the meeting of the Science Commission within the 41st session of the UNESCO General Conference, was supported.
