Community: It Is Unacceptable for a UNESCO Representative to Give a Platform to Armenia’s Unfounded Claims

As the Western Azerbaijan Community, we condemn and reject the position expressed by UNESCO representative Krista Pikkat regarding the possibility of sending a mission to Azerbaijan based on Armenia’s claims concerning cultural monuments located on the territory of Azerbaijan.

According to AZERTAG, the Western Azerbaijan Community made this statement.

The statement also noted: “Instead of clarifying why repeated appeals addressed to UNESCO officials concerning the large-scale destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage in the territories of Azerbaijan that were once under occupation and in Armenia have remained unanswered in substance, it is unacceptable for a UNESCO official to give space to Armenia’s unfounded claims.

The discrimination demonstrated by UNESCO against the Azerbaijani people on religious and ethnic grounds shows that this organization has become a tool in the hands of France for pursuing an anti-Azerbaijani policy.

We demand that UNESCO put an end to defamation and discrimination against Azerbaijan and its people and finally fulfill its responsibilities concerning the destruction of Azerbaijani cultural heritage by Armenia, including by sending a special monitoring mission to that country.”
